The "Shakers" were a nineteenth century religious society. They lived in villages from Maine to Kentucky that were known for their uncomplicated, warm and unpretentious lifestyle. Their cabinetry was a reflection of their style of life. Shaker cabinetry is shown in the photograph to the left.  Shakers often used tall sets of stacked drawers to save space.
